Menopause
(The Defined Event)
Menopause is reached when a woman has not had a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months. It marks the end of ovarian function and reproductive capability. The ovaries significantly reduce their production of oestrogen and progesterone, which can exacerbate symptoms experienced during perimenopause.
Symptoms at menopause:
-
Hot flashes and night sweats (often at their peak during this stage)
-
Vaginal dryness and thinning, leading to discomfort during intercourse
-
Urinary issues, such as increased risk of UTIs or incontinence
-
Sleep disturbances
-
Mood changes, anxiety, or depression
-
Skin, hair, and nail changes (thinning or dryness)
-
Weight gain and changes in body composition
